The Agony and the Ecstasy

This year, the heartbreak came one week later for the Huskers.

After a 2019 season that saw them score 710 points (good for 17th all-time) and miss the playoffs, the Huskers looked ready to rebound in 2020 as they jumped out to a 3-0 start and an incredible 78 points per game led by Russell Wilson's 14 touchdowns over that span.

However, that was followed up by three straight losses and by the end of the season, the Huskers were struggling to crack 40 points as Wilson scored a combined 26 points over the last 4 games. Not even a deadline deal for DeAndre Hopkins could seem to light a fire under Kevin Sansone's team as they limped into the NFC Wild Card spot on the shoulders of their early season success.

All those struggles seemed to be forgotten in the opening round of the playoffs as Wilson scored 4 times, his best output since Week 8, and TE Mike Gesicki scored twice(!) to deliver a comfortable 33 point lead over the White Guys heading into Monday night.

That was when defending league MVP Lamar Jackson answered the call.

Having struggled to live up to his breakout 2019 season this year, Jackson's abilities were on full display Monday night as he was all over the field, scoring twice with his legs and once through the air. However, it was RB Kareem Hunt who delivered the knockout blow with a 4th quarter touchdown that sent the White Guys to the NFC Championship and the Huskers questioning what they have to do to get back to another Super Bowl.

In the other contest, the Orangutangs pressed an early advantage over the Refigees with a combined four touchdowns from Ryan Tannehill, Amari Cooper and Allan Robinson in the 1pm games and never looked back as they fended off a late charge from Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs on Sunday night.

The Tangs will now square off with the might Buddies and the White Guys will take on the Chickens with a spot in Super Bowl XXVIII on the line.
