2021 Mock Draft

Steve Dugas, YFFL.com Draft Guru

September 01, 2021

In a draft class loaded with quarterback talent, #1 overall NFL draft pick Trevor Lawrence is predicted to be the first choice in this year's YFFL Draft. However, how does the rest of the 2021 QB class stack up? Draft guru Steve Dugas provides his predictions in this year's Mock Draft.

1. Dragons (via Mallards)

QB Trevor Lawrence JAX

Trevor Lawrence has been the presumed #1 pick in the 2021 YFFL draft since he was a Sophomore in high school. The Dragons could probably use help at another position after the Cam Akers injury, but they can't pass up a generational prospect like Lawrence.

2. Bear

RB Najee Harris PIT

Despite having a 44 year old QB on their roster and a top flight class of QBs available the Bear will give it one more go with Brady. Harris would really fill a multi year hole that has existed at RB on this roster. If the Bear decide to go QB it will be interesting to see if Bri goes with his hometown guy Mac Jones or his adopted hometown guy in Justin Fields.

3. Beans

TE Kyle Pitts ATL

For a couple months after the draft I thought for sure Bobby was going to take JaMarr Chase to pair with Burrow and we would have to watch Pitts fall to #6 and land in the Dragons lap. That Dragons roster with Lawrence and Pitts would have sent shivers down the spines of the YFFL Owners. Thankfully it's all but guaranteed the Beans take the second best player in the draft and become one of a few teams that actually can go into a week expecting points from the TE position.

4. Llamas

QB Zach Wilson NYJ

Deshaun Watson really did the Llamas dirty (along with many others) with his transgressions. The Llamas could have been thinking about grabbing another star player and competing for a playoff spot, instead they are back to the drawing board and have to approach the draft as if Watson never plays again. Gibby is likely to want a QB starting week 1, Wilson will get the edge as he is more likely to throw the ball around when compared to Mac Jones.

5. Merry Men (via Eaters)

RB Javonte Williams DEN

The Merry Men haven't had much luck with their RBs the last few years, so they throw another dart and grab Williams from the Broncos. Etienne would have been the pick prior to his season ending injury. The Merry Men also need a young prospect at QB but opt to wait till later in the draft to address that area.

6. Dragons

WR Ja'Marr Chase CIN

The Dragons are up again and this time they grab the top WR prospect in this draft class. Chase has had a rough preseason, but it is likely more attributable to rust then being the next Kevin White. Chase's prospect profile is on par with Calvin Johnson and Julio Jones.

7. Thugs

WR Elijiah Moore NYJ

Another tough call is what the Thugs will do at 7. They might need a franchise QB, but Winston and Darnold have looked solid this preseason. So with that being said they grab the preseason's most hyped player in Elijah Mooore. Moore has the makings of the next Antonio Brown (the player not the person). That he is a Jet is just the cherry on top.

8. Merry Men

QB Trey Lance SF

Trey Lance or Justin Fields...shades of the Edwards Helaire vs Taylor debate from a year ago. They chose wrong last time. Will the Merry Men do it again? Fields is probably prefered but Lance is just an all around better situation and I love those 4:30 starts, always makes you feel like you still have a chance when the Buddies are up by 30 on you. Getting a QB of the future is a must for the MM this week.

9. Boys

WR Devonta Smith PHI

The biggest hole on the Boys is the lack of a superstar WR and the Boys try to fill that hole by grabbing the former Heisman winner and "Slim Reaper". Smith may not have prototypical size for an alpha WR but he sure plays like one.

10. Brothers

QB Justin Fields CHI

The Brothers could go in any direction with this pick, but ultimately decide that they can't be committed to watching Jared Goff and the Lions this fall. So with that they select the guy playing in their backyard in Justin Fields. I still have no idea how this guy fell to 11 in the NFL draft and I'm sure we'll all be saying the same thing in two years about how he fell to #10 in this mock draft.

11. Refugees

RB Trey Sermon SF

The Refugees are set at QB, they have the best TE in the league, and they have more WRs than they know what to do with. The Refugees grab one of the last few remaining RBs that we think will have value this season and hopefully they plug a gaping hole in their lineup. I wouldn't be surprised if Aceto is working the SMS lines this week in an attempt to flip this pick and a WR for a higher pick to get a better RB prospect.

12. Mallards (via Huskers)

QB Mac Jones NE

The Mallards could use another RB more than anything after the devastating JK Dobbins injury, unfortunately with the Eitienne injury no one is pushed down this far. Instead they opt to grab the last rookie QB we expect to go in the first round knowing they can probably grab one of the expected group of WRs to go in the next few picks when they are up again at 17. Mac Jones would make a nice insurance policy for Justin Herbert.

13. Orangutangs

RB Rhamondre Stevenson NE

This preseason we have seen Stevenson rise up from YFFL third rounder to late first rounder after a terrific string of games. The Patriots might have their next LeGarrette Blount and if that's the case the 'Tangs are pumped as they could use another RB on the roster who contributes on a weekly basis.

14. Chickens

WR Jaylen Waddle MIA

The Chickens look locked and loaded for another title run. At this point in the draft we have teams just adding depth to some pretty good lineups. Waddle was electric the last few seasons (when healthy). He has been comped to Tyreek Hill, pretty high praise. He is the best player left in the draft, but I could see Nick being ordered to allow him to slide to the Buddies to pair with Tua.

15. Buddies

WR Terrance Marshall CAR

Marshall has been a beast this preseason, his only problem is he is probably the 4th option for the Panters. I'll stick him here but as we know when it comes to Mike to always expect the unexpected. Who knows what player Mike will draft seemingly out of nowhere like Chase Claypool last year. When those picks work out it looks like he is playing chess while we play checkers.

16. White Guys

WR Rashod Bateman BAL

This is kind of a chalk pick, stacking Bateman with Jackson, but it just makes too much sense to not happen. The Defending Champs close out round 1 with a player who could wind up being the best WR from this draft class.
