Going Ape!

Jon Kinsman, YFFL Commissioner

October 12, 2021

In a week that saw 5 teams score 70+ points, the Orangutangs were at the top of the heap as they posted 78 points to outlast the Buddies in a rematch of last season's AFC Championship Game.

The combination of teammates Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper paid off big dividends yet again for the Tangs in this one, as they combined for 30 points. Coupled with 28 points from the backfield duo of Alvin Kamara and Alexander Mattison (filling in for an injured Dalvin Cook), owner Jon Kinsman's squad was able to exact a measure of revenge against his brother Mike's Buddies after last season's 70-61 playoff defeat.

The Buddies put forth a furious charge on Monday night thanks to a career high 20 points from TE Mark Andrews, but they fell just short and dropped to 3-2 despite scoring a league-high 356 points thru the first five games, including 4 games of 60 or more. They'll square off with the Refugees next week with a showdown with the Huskers looming in Week 7.

Elsewhere around the league, the East was a beast as the teams in the Eastern divisions went a perfect 8-0 against their Western counterparts. Leading the way for the East was a trio of quarterbacks who all posted 35 points or more: Lamar Jackson of the White Guys (35), Tom Brady of Bear Poop (35) and Justin Herbert of the Mallards (36). After Week 5's action, an incredible 11 teams are now over .500 and 13 of the league's 16 teams sit at 2 or 3 wins. As we near the midpoint of the season, things are wide open in the race for Super Bowl XXIX.
