Jon Kinsman, YFFL Commissioner

September 02, 2022

In a draft with plenty of questions marks, there was little doubt as to who was going in the top spot.

Thugs owner Bobby Sansone selected RB Breece Hall #1 overall in the 2022 YFFL Draft with a pick that he received from the Orangutangs as part of a trade for Elijah Mitchell last season. Selected in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft, Hall is poised to quickly become the Jets primary running back, a position that has been difficult to find consistency in recent years.

The Thugs paired Hall with fellow RB Dameon Pierce just two picks later at #3. After a steallar preseason that saw him rocket up draft boards, Pierce will join Hall in a restructured Thugs backfield that already features 2-time YFFL Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook. Along with star Justin Jefferson at wideout, the Thugs will be looking to improve on their disastrous 3-11 record in 2021.

Other notable selections included WR Drake London at #2 to the Brothers. London headlined 9 WRs that were selected in the first round and the Brothers hope the 6' 5" wideout can make an immediate impact in a receiving corps that saw little production last year.

The first quarterback off the board was Kenny Pickett at pick #4 in the second round. Pickett is the most heralded prospect in a shallow QB class and will look to fill the void left by Ben Roethlisberger in Pittsburgh, who retired in the offseason as the YFFL's 7th highest scoring quarterback.

The draft's lone trade occured early in the 3rd round as the Buddies and Orangutangs swapped 2022 and 2023 draft picks. It was indicative of a subdued draft that many estimate will be one of the weakest in memory.

However, as anyone can tell you, anything can (and usually does) happen in the Yarmouth Fantasy Football League.

We'll see how this draft bears out as we kick off the 30th(!) season of the YFFL this Thursday as Anthony Aceto and the Cuban Refugees look to defend their Super Bowl XXIX championship, which was Aceto's 4th in the last 5 years.
