Hurts So Good

What more can be said about the Chunky Chickens?

Every year the YFFL pundits predict that "this will be the year the Chickens become irrelevant" and every year the Chickens prove them wrong.

Just look at these all-time stats: a league-high 237 all-time wins (38 more than the next closest team) and a winning percentage of .620 (nearly .100 higher than the next closest team). The Chickens have also avoided a losing season in 20 of the last 21 seasons - in fact, they could lose the next 91 games in a row (that's 6.5 years!) and still have more wins than losses all-time.

All this is to say that as the Chickens are sitting at 3-0 with a 2 game lead in the NFC West, why should we be surprised?

Leading the way this year is QB Jalen Hurts, who has put together his two best games of his career in back-to-back weeks and shows no signs of slowing down. GM Nick Wood has to be given credit for giving the reigns to Hurts over back-to-back defending NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, who has been nothing short of brilliant (10 games of 3+ TD passes) since being acquired in late 2020. However, the Chickens have been able to do what they've always done best - reinvent themselves and find new ways to win.

Whether that can extend into a playoffs, is anyone's guess. After back-to-back first round exits and nearly a decade without a title, adding another championship to the trophy case appears to be the only measure of success for the team that has no equal.

Elsewhere around the league, owner Anthony Aceto's dominance continued as the White Guys (behind Lamar Jackson's 34 points) and Refugees (behind Josh Allen's 17 points) both rolled to easy victories to remain undefeated, the Thugs miraculous turnaround from a season ago continued as they outlasted the Merry Men in a 34-23 slugfest to move to 3-0, and the Buddies are also undefeated as they try to bounce back from a down season last year. They'll match-up with the Thugs this week with control of the AFC West on the line.
