Not Ready for Prime Time

Jon Kinsman, YFFL Commissioner

Coming off back-to-back 6 win seasons and boasting a roster of young talent ready to break out, the Snapdragons were a trendy pick to not only return to the playoffs for the first time since 2015, but make a legitimate run at a Super Bowl title.

Five weeks into the season, it looks like these Dragons are still earning their wings.

Sophomore QB Trevor Lawrence was the biggest question mark for the Dragons heading into the season. While Lawrence has made some strides after a rocky rookie season, he still hasn't looked like the "generational talent" he was billed as out of college. The remainder of the season will serve as an important proving ground as the Dragons determine if their franchise quarterback is on the roster.

However, not all of the blame can be laid at the feet of the Dragons young quarterback. Big things were expected out of the WR duo of A.J. Brown and Ja'Marr Chase, and while both players have been putting up modest numbers, they haven't been the game breaking sensations they've shown in the past. Along with an injury to RB D'Andre Swift, uninspired play from RB Cam Akers and a near total disappearance from TE Hunter Henry, points have been hard to come by for owner Jon Kinsman's squad up and down the lineup.

The struggles culminated in Week 5 as the Dragons failed to score a single TD and were rolled by the Thugs to a tune of 62-11. With two of league's highest scoring teams (Brothers, Buddies) coming up over the next three games, things aren't going to get any easier for the Dragons.

Elsewhere around the league, the Buddies improved to 5-0 with a victory over the White Guys in a battle of unbeatens, the Refugees rebounded from a loss last week and flexed their muscle with an epic 94-19 beatdown over the Mallards (the third highest margin of victory all-time), and Bear Poop secured their fourth straight victory to keep pace in the AFC and quietly improve to 4-1.
