To Be the Man, You Gotta Beat the Man

In a possible AFC Championship match-up, the Refugees reminded everyone that they're still the defending champions as they handed the Buddies their first defeat of the season, 56-52.

Josh Allen won the match-up of star quarterbacks in real life and the YFFL as he outscored Patrick Mahomes 22-16 and delivered the deciding TD toss late on Sunday afternoon. Allen has now scored 136 points thru 6 games and is on pace to match Peyton Manning's single-season record 295 points in 2013.

While Allen has outscored Mahomes in their previous two meetings (2020 and 2021), this was the first victory over the Buddies for the defending Super Bowl MVP.

Chipping in once again was WR Stefon Diggs, who recorded his fourth 10+ point game of the season, and TE Travis Kelce, who failed to score a TD for the first time in 3 games, but still eclipsed the 100+ yard mark. The Refugees will roll into next week without Allen and Diggs (BYE) as they attempt to further assert their dominance in the AFC, while the Buddies will look to rebound and keep pace in a hotly contested AFC.

Elsewhere around the league, the aforementioned AFC races remained tight as Bear Poop and the Thugs both improved to 5-1 along with the Refugees and Buddies, the Chickens scraped out a victory to stay on top of the NFC West, but the Beans are nipping at their heels and exerted some muscle in Week 6 with a statement 67-52 win over the White Guys, and don't look now, but the Huskers have quietly rebounded from a 0-3 start to win three straight, get back to .500 and place themselves firmly into the division race as well.
