Harvest Time

Jon Kinsman, YFFL Commissioner

October 25, 2022

When the Huskers finally delivered on the preseason hype and returned to the Super Bowl last year for the first time since their magical 2002 season, owner Kevin Sansone hoped that success would carry over into 2022.

However, an 0-3 start and big question marks at the quarterback position quickly erased those hopes.

Enter RB Josh Jacobs, who has almost single-handedly pulled the Huskers season back from the brink and is quickly becoming a dark horse MVP candidate thanks to 6 touchdowns over his last three games. That stretch has led to four straight Huskers victories, including a 73-64 shootout win over the Dragons in Week 7 that saw Jacobs score a career-high 24 points.

With WR DeAndre Hopkins returning from suspension, the Huskers will look to recreate the magic from 2021 that saw them fall just 8 points short of a Super Bowl title. But with huge uncertainty at QB, will they have enough to chase down a playoff spot? Their next six opponets have a combined record of 29-13, so we'll find out soon enough what this team is truly made of.

Elsewhere around the league, the Thugs outlasted Bear Poop in match-up of 5-1 teams to keep pace with the Buddies in the AFC West, the Merry Men pulled an upset over the Refugees with their dynamic duo of Josh Allen and Stegon Diggs on bye, and new acquisition RB Austin Ekeler paid immediate dividends for the Chickens, scoring 16 points to lead them to a win over the Boys and improve to 6-1 in the NFC West.
