Deadline Deals

Jon Kinsman, YFFL Commissioner

November 15, 2022

With just four weeks left to play in the regular season and a league full of have's and have not's, this could be one of the busiest trade deadlines in YFFL history.

You could make the case that things kicked off several weeks ago when the Chickens acquired RB Austin Ekeler from the Merry Men, but things really heated up on Sunday when two marquee wideouts were acquired by a pair of division leaders.

Mike Evans (#10 all-time in scoring at WR) was dealt from the Mallards to Bear Poop on Sunday morning, pairing him with QB Tom Brady as owner Brian Davidson attempts to fend off a late season charge from the defending champion Refugees. While Evans didn't pay off immediate dividends (2 points in a 57-38 loss to the Buddies), an injury to star WR Cooper Kupp could mean that he'll need shoulder more of the burden during the final few weeks of the season.

In the AFC West, the Buddies hope they found the missing piece in DeAndre Hopkins (#9 all-time in WR scoring) that will bolster a lineup that's been rock solid all season long. Despite a lack of production at WR2, the Buddies have shown incredible consistency this season by scoring 50+ points in every game and suffering just one loss by a paltry 4 points. However, with the Thugs also sitting at 9-1, a first round bye is far from a certainty. Owner Mike Kinsman hopes Hopkins can help him return to the Super Bowl for the fourth time in the past five seasons.

After a busy few weeks and the trade deadline looming on Thursday, will more deals follow as teams jockey for playoff position? Stay tuned as we head towards another exciting regular season finish.

Elsewhere around the league, the NFC Wild Card race heated up as the Beans, Huskers and Boys all secured much-needed victories, the Refugees snapped a three-game losing streak to gain a game in the race for the AFC East and the Buddies, Thugs and Chickens all improved to 9-1 as they look ahead to a run at a YFFL championship.
