Go Joe

Jon Kinsman, YFFL Commissioner

With just 9 winning seasons, kicker Jeff Wilkins as their #2 all-time leading scorer and no championships to their credit, it's suffice to say that the Mexican Humping Beans have not been synonymous with success in the YFFL.

That may have changed when they selected QB Joe Burrow with the third pick of the 2020 Draft.

Since his rookie season, Burrow and the Beans have steadily improved year after year. From 3 wins in 2020 to 6 wins in 2021 and now 8 with two games remaining in 2022, things are looking up for owner Bobby Sansone's franchise.

Week 12 was one to celebrate as the Beans held off the Brothers 50-46 to secure the NFC Wild Card and return to the playoffs for the first time since 2017. While Burrow has done most of the heavy lifting and is a bona fide MVP candidate, it was the rest of the team that shined this week as everyone in the lineup scored and 4 different players chipped in with touchdowns.

With the White Guys on tap in the first round of the playoffs, will the Beans be able to continue their success and capture their first playoff victory since 2007? With Burrow at the controls, it seems like anything is possible.

Elsewhere around the league, the Chickens clinched the NFC West by squeaking by the Huskers 51-50 to improve to 11-1 and the playoff chase in the AFC remains unresolved as the Thugs dropped their second game in a row and the Buddies, Refugees and Poop all were victorious. Things are about to really heat up as Poop takes on the Refugees and the Buddies take on the Thugs in Week 13. While the Buddies have all but secured the first round bye, the AFC East and Wild Card are still very much in play with just two weeks to go in the regular season. The only certainty is that one of these teams will be left out in the cold.
