Wait Till Next Year

Jon Kinsman, YFFL Commissioner

October 22, 2024

After the Huskers and Llamas won 2 and 3 games respectively in 2023 (a franchise low for both teams), owner Kevin Sansone and general manager Ryan Gibbons' teams had hit rock bottom.

However, with #1 overall pick QB Caleb Williams joining the Llamas and the duo of Marvin Harrison Jr. and Brian Thomas Jr. bolstering the Huskers WR corps, there was a sense of optimism heading into the 2024 season. While the Llamas struggled out of the gate, the Huskers managed a 2-2 start including a big 60-54 victory over the division rival Chickens in Week 4.

However, any optimism for the 2024 season has been erased in the past 3 weeks as the Huskers and Llamas have gone a combined 0-6. In a year where parity reigns (12 of the league's 16 teams sit at 3 or 4 wins) both teams sit firmly at the bottom of the division by two or more games. The outlook was especially grim in Week 7 as the Huskers managed only 22 points and the Llamas saw an upset bid against the Buddies slip away on Monday night. With a gauntlet of contending teams in the weeks ahead, it doesn't look like things are going to get any easier for either team. However, let's not forget that the Orangutangs and Brothers both went from 3 wins apiece to competing in the Super Bowl last year, so turnovers can (and often do) happen overnight in the YFFL.

Elsewhere around the league, the Monday Night games were pivotal as a pair of MVP contenders (Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson) led their teams to victory in standout performances, the Dragons held on to a 1-point win over the Chickens, and the Eaters handed the Refugees their second loss of the year behind RB Bucky Irving(!) and TE Cade Otton(!!).
