The AFC East was supposed to be one of the YFFL’s most competitive divisions. Josh Allen and the Cuban Refugees are doing their best to simplify things.
After opening the season with a convincing win over the Orangutangs, the Refugees dismantled the Llamas 74–16 in Week 2. Allen accounted for five touchdowns and 32 points, doubling the Llamas’ entire output and pushing the Refugees to 2–0. With 60 points already, the two-time YFFL MVP is well on his way toward a seventh consecutive 200-point season, having cleared that mark every year since 2020.
While the Merry Men and Dragons entered the season carrying championship expectations, the Refugees have quickly made a case for joining them. Their 145 points lead the league, and victories over their two closest divisional rivals have given them sole possession of first place in the AFC East.
Allen has also had plenty of help. After Chuba Hubbard and Evan McPherson provided the supporting punch in Week 1, veterans Stefon Diggs and Travis Kelce took their turns against the Llamas. Diggs scored twice for 12 points, while Kelce added 10 behind 101 receiving yards and a touchdown. Hubbard and McPherson chipped in eight apiece as the Refugees cleared 70 points for the second straight week.
For the Llamas, the afternoon was a dramatic reversal from their promising opener. One week after scoring 68 points, they managed just 16, with Caleb Williams, Saquon Barkley and Isaiah Likely all held scoreless. The Orangutangs, meanwhile, rebounded with a 63–48 win over the Poop to join the Llamas at 1–1. Both now find themselves looking up at a Refugees team that has already beaten them.
Elsewhere, the Merry Men continued their pursuit of a third straight championship with a 57–42 victory over the Buddies. CeeDee Lamb’s 18 points helped the defending champions improve to 2–0, while the Eaters moved to 1–0–1 by beating the Thugs 47–25.
The NFC offered a reminder of how quickly fortunes can change. After their explosive opener, the Dragons needed just 32 points to beat the White Guys and remain unbeaten. The Mallards kept pace at 2–0, riding Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s 24 points to a narrow 51–47 victory over the Boys.
In the NFC West, the Brothers bounced back with a league-high 79 points against the Chickens, while the Huskers followed their impressive opening win with a 24–10 loss to the Beans. All four teams now sit at 1–1.
There is still plenty of football ahead, but the Refugees have already turned a crowded division race into an early advantage. With Allen piling up points and his supporting cast taking turns delivering, the rest of the AFC has another contender to worry about.
