Four the Record

Four the Record

The Merry Men are making the pursuit of a third straight championship look awfully comfortable. Four weeks into the season, the defending champions have four wins, a growing cushion in the AFC West and a new entry at the top of their franchise record book.

Their 96-40 victory over the White Guys was their most emphatic statement yet. The 96 points surpassed the Merry Men's previous high of 93 against the Orangutangs in Week 8 of 2019, turning an already convincing start into a record-setting one. For a team with championship expectations, the bar keeps moving upward.

Strength in Numbers

Perhaps the most concerning part for the rest of the league was how they got there. Brock Purdy scored 12 points, matching Lamar Jackson on the other side. The Merry Men did not need a huge advantage at quarterback. They simply overwhelmed the White Guys everywhere else.

Kyren Williams, Bijan Robinson and Nico Collins each scored twice and contributed 16 points. Williams combined 80 rushing yards with 67 receiving yards, while Robinson piled up 145 on the ground. Collins added 118 receiving yards, giving the Merry Men three different ways to find the same productive result.

CeeDee Lamb supplied another 12 points behind 189 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Malik Nabers added 10 with 112 yards and a score. Brock Bowers chipped in eight and Eddy Pineiro six. All eight starters scored, six reached double figures, and the starting wide receivers alone produced 38 points. There was no quiet corner of this lineup.

The franchise record capped a four-week run that has been impressive even without it. After beating the Thugs 63-46, Buddies 57-42 and Eaters 72-41 to sweep their opening trip through the division, the Merry Men have now won every game by at least 15 points. Their league-leading 288 points work out to 72 per game, with a scoring differential of plus-119.

Room to Breathe

Their divisional rivals did their part in Week 4, too. The Eaters handed the Dragons their first loss, 52-48, while the Buddies beat the Mallards 55-37. Both improved to 2-1-1, but still trail the Merry Men by a game and a half in the AFC West.

The Refugees remain the other unbeaten team after edging the Chickens 45-42. Their 239 points rank second in the league, 49 behind the Merry Men. Both AFC division leaders are perfect, but the defending champions are setting the scoring pace.

The Llamas are next on the Merry Men's schedule, and there is plenty of football between October and another championship. Still, four straight convincing wins and a franchise scoring record make a fairly persuasive opening argument. The three-peat bid is gathering speed.
